SANFORD, ME — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire at a vacant mill as arson.
The fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Monday at the International Woolen Mill.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames from a portion of the long-vacant mill complex and worked for several hours to bring the fire under control.
No injuries were reported.
The building has been unoccupied for several years and is regularly monitored by local authorities due to safety and trespassing concerns.
Following an on-scene investigation, officials determined the fire was likely intentionally set.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office, Sanford Police Department and Sanford Fire Department are investigating.
