Man charged with murder in Jersey City stabbing

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 61-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred on Oct. 25.

Roberto Camacho, of Jersey City, is charged with murder, felony murder during the commission of a robbery, and robbery.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Correctional Facility on Tuesday, where he has been detained since the crime occurred.

Shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 25, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a stabbing in the area of Jersey Avenue, 1st Street, and Maxwell Street.

Responding officers located an injured male with an apparent stab wound to the abdomen.

The victim was identified as Joan Segovia, 26.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest and the manner to be homicide.

Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
