Man arrested on child exploitation charges in Corning

CORNING, NY — State Police have arrested a 53-year-old man following a child exploitation investigation.

Gerald D. Makin Jr., of Corning, was taken into custody Oct. 24.

The investigation was conducted by the State Police Painted Post Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop E Computer Crimes Unit, and Troop E Forensic Investigation Unit.

The case originated with a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

On Sept. 24, 2024, State Police executed a search warrant at 20 E. Fourth Street in Corning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Numerous electronic devices were seized during the search for forensic examination.

The Troop E Computer Crimes Unit determined the devices appeared to contain child sexual abuse material.

Makin was transported to State Police Painted Post for processing.

He was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

Makin was transported to Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
