Woman charged with assault after standoff in Bath

BATH, NY — A 40-year-old woman faces multiple felony charges after allegedly attacking police officers with a sharp metal object during a welfare check Oct. 26.

Officers with the Village of Bath Police Department were dispatched to the Budget Inn, room 110, at approximately 5 p.m. to check on Natalia Bathory.

Upon arrival, officers noticed Bathory was not acting right and determined she had attempted self-harm and needed immediate medical attention.

Officers attempted to assist Bathory until she became violent, charging at both officers and then barricading herself inside her room.

Officers called for backup and New York State Police responded to assist.

After a brief standoff, officers made entry into the room and were met by Bathory throwing a skateboard and charging toward officers with a sharp metal object.

Officers were able to gain control of Bathory and take her into custody.

During the struggle, Bathory attempted to use the metal object on all officers involved and struck one Bath Police officer with the object close to the neck.

The officer was treated at the scene with minor injuries.

Bathory was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony, menacing in the first degree, a class E felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.

She was evaluated at a local hospital and then sent to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment.

Bathory was held on the charges as she is a three-time convicted felon.

Bathory is currently under the supervision of New York State Parole and has assaulted police officers in the past.
