Pedestrian killed in East Windsor crash

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Route 33 on Sunday night.

The East Windsor Police Department responded to the collision at approximately 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 33 and Twin Rivers Drive North.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 2020 BMW X5 was traveling westbound on Route 33 under a green traffic control signal when it struck two pedestrians.

The pedestrians were walking north from Twin Rivers Drive and had crossed over Route 33 east before attempting to cross Route 33 west.

Fausto Chacha-Pintado, 45, of East Windsor, was treated on scene by Capital Health Paramedics and EMS and flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by New Jersey State Police Medevac.

Chacha-Pintado suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Elena Mateo, 50, of East Windsor, was treated by Capital Health Paramedics and Robbinsville EMS and flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by New Jersey State Police Medevac.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Liana Abbate, 30, of East Windsor.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Assisting agencies included the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team, New Jersey State Police, Capital Health Paramedics, Capital Health EMS, Robbinsville Township EMS, East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2 and New Jersey DOT Operations.
