UTICA, NY — A hospital patient punched a nurse in the face early Sunday, causing a large laceration and swelling, police said.
Utica Police units responded to Wynn Hospital at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 26 regarding an assault investigation.
The victim told police he was assisting other staff with a separate incident when a patient exited their room.
The nurse requested that the patient return to their room when the patient punched the nurse in the eye, police said.
The patient was detained and returned to the room and placed into restraints.
Anthony Garcia, 23, of Utica, was released from the hospital on Tuesday and taken into custody by the Utica Police Department.
Garcia was charged with assault in the second degree.
