POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 40-year-old man faces felony charges after state police say he was driving drunk with a child in his vehicle early Saturday morning.

Troopers assigned to the State Police Wappinger barracks stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on State Route 9 in the City of Poughkeepsie at approximately 12:46 a.m. on Oct. 25 for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The operator, identified as Brandon J. Williams of Poughkeepsie, displayed signs of intoxication during the stop, police said.

Williams failed standardized field sobriety tests, according to police.

A 7-year-old child was present in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Police said Williams was in possession of numerous non-prescribed pills.

Williams was taken into custody and transported to State Police Wappinger for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 percent.

The child was safely released to a sober third party.

Williams was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under Leandra’s Law, a class E felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; and vehicle and traffic law violations.

Williams was issued traffic tickets returnable to the City of Poughkeepsie Court on Nov. 24 at 9 a.m.
