BRIGHTON, MA — A man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly attempting to break into a residence on Chester Street.
Officers from District D-14 responded to 19 Chester Street at approximately 2:25 a.m. on Oct. 26 following a report of a breaking and entering.
The victim told police she was closing her bedroom window when it suddenly reopened and a hand reached inside.
The suspect fled before officers arrived, and an initial search of the area was unsuccessful.
District detectives processing the scene observed a torn window screen and handprints on the glass.
While detectives examined the point of entry, a man matching the suspect’s description returned to the scene.
The man walked away quickly when officers approached, then broke into a sprint.
Officers pursued the suspect on foot but he initially eluded capture.
A description of the man was broadcast to responding units, and he was located in the area of 1094 Commonwealth Avenue.
Renato De Oliveira, 39, of Brighton, was placed under arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on charges of breaking and entering during nighttime hours and trespassing.
