TROY, NY — Police have arrested a man in connection with two armed robberies at Troy businesses last month.
Xavier Baker, 29, of Troy, was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.
The first incident occurred Sept. 28 when a suspect entered LB Empire and Deli in Lansingburgh, brandished what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
The second robbery was reported Oct. 14 at LeBeau’s grocery in south Troy, where a suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at a clerk and demanded money and cigarettes.
Troy Police detectives used surveillance video and other investigative tools to connect the two crimes and identify a suspect.
On Oct. 22, detectives executed a search warrant on Baker’s vehicle and residence in Troy and recovered evidence linking him to the robberies.
Baker admitted to the crimes after questioning, according to police.
He was arraigned in Troy City Court on Oct. 22 and sent to Rensselaer County Jail with bail.
The alleged firearm was recovered and determined to be an imitation handgun.
