HORNELLSVILLE, NY — New York State Police arrested a Rochester man after a domestic dispute led to a vehicle crashing into an Aldi grocery store.
Markiest D. Hartfield, 30, of Rochester, was taken into custody following the incident on Oct. 22.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Seneca Road North in the town of Hornell for a report of a physical domestic dispute.
While en route, troopers were advised that the male suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
Moments later, troopers were redirected to the Aldi grocery store at 1191 County Route 66 after receiving reports of a vehicle that had crashed into the building.
Upon arrival, troopers located a 2024 Jeep that had gone through the exterior brick wall of the store and was resting on its driver’s side.
The vehicle was unoccupied.
A short time later, troopers located and detained a male matching the suspect’s description near the scene.
The individual was identified as Hartfield.
Hartfield was evaluated by EMS and determined to have no injuries.
The vehicle was removed from the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the domestic incident involved two victims at the Seneca Road North residence.
Hartfield was charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.
He was processed at State Police Hornell and transported to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
