Driver arrested in fatal pedestrian crash in Norwalk

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk police have arrested a driver in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in July.

Marc Owens, 56, of Norwalk, was arrested on Oct. 28 and charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, distracted driving not by cell phone, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The crash occurred on July 12 at 10:16 a.m. in the area of 133 Connecticut Avenue.

Norwalk Combined Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a pickup truck.

Norwalk police officers, the Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital EMS responded to the scene.

First responders located the pedestrian, identified as Josephine Pimpinella, 84, of Norwalk, and provided emergency medical care.

Pimpinella sustained serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck operated by Owens as she crossed the driveway entrance to the location.

She was transported to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance, where she later died from her injuries.

The Norwalk Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded along with detectives, who canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.

Crash Reconstruction Unit officers processed the scene, collected evidence, and conducted an accident reconstruction analysis based on forensic findings.

Following the investigation, Officer Wasilewski applied for an arrest warrant for Owens.

The warrant was issued by Stamford Superior Court.

Owens turned himself in at Norwalk Police Headquarters on Oct. 28 and was taken into custody without incident.

He was held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.
