WESTFORD, NY — Two people face multiple felony drug charges after deputies conducting a welfare check on three children discovered controlled substances at a residence Oct. 26.
Michael A. Fletcher, 42, of Westford, and Michelle A. Bremner, 36, of Westford, were each charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony; three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; and false personation, a class B misdemeanor.
Deputies from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for a welfare check on three children at the residence.
Upon arrival, deputies located Fletcher and Bremner inside the residence.
During the initial investigation, both defendants provided false identification information to deputies in an attempt to hide their true identities because they had multiple active warrants for their arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
After discovering their true identities, deputies took both defendants into custody on the warrants.
Due to the condition of the residence, multiple items of drug paraphernalia in plain view and the lack of a sober and responsible adult to care for the children, Otsego County Child Protective Services was contacted.
Caseworkers responded to the residence and took the children into their care.
Based on observations made at the scene, investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence through Westford Town Court.
After execution of the search warrant, numerous items of controlled substances were located inside the residence.
The defendants were transported to the sheriff’s office for processing.
The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office provided a no-bail recommendation.
Both defendants were arraigned in centralized arraignment and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.
