Man arrested on drug charges in Olean

OLEAN, NY — A 41-year-old man faces multiple drug and traffic charges after leading deputies on a pursuit while riding a gas-powered bicycle early Saturday morning.

Anthony M. Margeson, of Olean, was taken into custody at approximately 3:34 a.m. Oct. 25 following a traffic stop on North 18th Street in the city of Olean, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop Margeson for multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions, but he failed to yield to activated emergency lights and sirens, leading deputies on a short pursuit.

Margeson continued through a wooded area, onto a bicycle trail and then onto Constitution Avenue before losing control of his bicycle and crashing.

He then began resisting arrest and was placed in handcuffs after a brief struggle, deputies said.

A search incident to arrest found Margeson in possession of a quantity of suspected oxycodone, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, packaging material and a scale, according to the sheriff’s office.

Margeson was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing.

He was released on an appearance ticket and multiple uniform traffic tickets on charges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to keep right, failure to signal, failure to yield and unregistered motor vehicle.

Margeson is due in Olean City Court at a later date.
