ROCKLAND, ME — A transient man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest Saturday night.
Officers were called at approximately 10:30 p.m. Oct. 25 for a report of a disorderly male attempting to break into a vacant residence.
The vacant property has been the location of several recent break-ins, according to police.
After speaking to witnesses, the responding officer located the male, later identified as Lucas Ross, 28, a transient.
Ross refused to stop for the officer, leading to a short foot chase, police said.
The officer caught up to and was able to stop Ross, who was attempting to flee into a residential backyard.
While attempting to place Ross into custody, Ross continued to fight and struggle with the officer, refusing to comply with commands, according to police.
Due to the physical nature of the struggle, along with equipment malfunctions, responding backup officers were unable to communicate with the officer engaged in the fight.
During the fight, Ross kneed the officer in the head, police said.
Ross was arrested and booked on charges of refusing to submit to arrest or detention and felony assault on an officer.
