MORRIS, NY — A 34-year-old man was arrested on charges of failing to update the New York State Sex Offender Registry with a change in status.

Dustin J. Henness, of Morris, was taken into custody on Oct. 23 following an investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators were alerted that a level III sex offender was utilizing a social media account that was not properly registered.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Henness was operating a Facebook account under an alias.

Deputies located Henness and took him into custody without incident.

He was formally processed on the violation of the Sex Offender Registry and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and provided a remand without bail recommendation due to Henness’ prior felony convictions and his status as a level III sex offender.

The case will be heard in Middlefield Town Court.
