Man attacks nurses, visitor at hospital in Utica

UTICA, NY — A man undergoing a mental health evaluation attacked two nurses and a visitor at Wynn Hospital on Oct. 16.

Police units were dispatched to the hospital after the man attempted to escape while being treated.

Two nurses responded to contain him in the area when he began to punch and kick them repeatedly.

The man then attacked a visitor who was uninvolved in the incident in a similar fashion.

Multiple staff members ran to assist and detained the man after a struggle, sustaining additional injuries.

The injuries consisted of sprains, deep contusions to legs, hands and feet, and a concussion.

The man was transferred to the psychiatric unit.

Upon his discharge, he will be identified and charged with three counts of assault in the second degree and one count of assault in the third degree.
