KEENE, NH — The Keene Police Department is investigating multiple reports of phone scams targeting residents.
Police said they received several reports of residents being contacted by scammers claiming to be law enforcement officials.
The callers are telling residents they have outstanding fines that must be paid over the phone, according to police.
Authorities said the scammers are requesting payment through gift cards or other forms of online payment.
Police said law enforcement agencies do not call residents to collect fines over the phone.
Authorities are advising residents who receive such calls to hang up immediately.
Police said residents with questions about suspicious calls should contact their local police department.
