SPRINGFIELD, MA — A 13-year-old was arrested Thursday after allegedly striking five vehicles while driving a stolen car.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., an officer was near the intersection of Boston Road and Harvey Street in traffic due to construction when he observed a vehicle speeding through traffic.
The vehicle struck the cruiser’s side-view mirror.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver continued to speed onto Berkshire Avenue and refused to stop.
A short time later, the officer observed that the suspect vehicle had crashed into four vehicles that were waiting at the light at the intersection of Berkshire Avenue and Bay Street.
The driver then began running from the vehicle and went into an apartment on Robert Dyer Circle.
Assisting officers arrived and located the suspect.
The 13-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest.
The vehicle was stolen from a gas station on the 1400 block of Bay Street a few minutes before the incident occurred.
Three of the drivers whose vehicles were struck at the intersection of Berkshire Avenue and Bay Street were transported to Baystate to evaluate possible injuries.
The 13-year-old also had two outstanding warrants out of Holyoke District Court.
