HOLYOKE, MA — Holyoke police have arrested two suspects in connection with a home invasion that left a victim with head injuries.
Officers responded to a gun call in the area of 690 Dwight Street around 5 p.m. on Oct. 14.
Officers encountered a victim suffering from head injuries.
The victim allegedly knew the suspect, who forced his way into the apartment before striking the victim with a firearm.
Holyoke Police Sgt. Dustin Summers along with Detectives John Wagner, Ashley Feliciano and William Lebrun began investigating.
From viewing video in the area, detectives identified a second suspect allegedly working with the home invasion suspect.
Detectives identified that suspect as Jonathan Vergara, who was on probation and had an active arrest warrant.
Around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 15, detectives located Vergara on Suffolk Street and placed him under arrest for the warrant.
Once transported to the Holyoke Police Department, detectives charged Vergara in connection with the home invasion.
Detectives also identified Desmond Wheeler as the suspect who entered the apartment and that heroin was allegedly stolen during the home invasion.
Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for Wheeler’s arrest.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 21, Sunderland police officers contacted Holyoke detectives with information about Wheeler’s location.
Holyoke detectives responded to Sunderland and along with Sunderland officers located Wheeler near 248 Amherst Road and placed him under arrest.
He was courtesy booked in Sunderland before being transported to the Holyoke Police Department.
Desmond Wheeler, 29, who is homeless, is charged with home invasion and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Jonathan Vergara, 28, of Springfield, is charged with home invasion (joint venture), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (joint venture) and an arrest warrant.
