COLONIE, NY — State Police responded to a report of an overturned tractor-trailer on the offramp from Alternate State Route 7 westbound to State Route 9 on Oct. 22 at about 4:20 a.m.
The driver sustained minor injuries during the crash.
Forty-one cows were inside the trailer at the time it overturned.
Four cows perished as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
The surviving cows were assessed on scene by a veterinarian and then transferred into multiple trailers.
The cattle were traveling from Cambridge, New York, to a holding facility in Stamford, New York.
The extrication and transfer of the cattle took approximately seven hours.
The incident resulted in a left lane closure which has since been reopened.
State Police were assisted at the scene by The County Animal Response Team, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, New York State Department of Transportation in Latham, Latham Fire Department and Maplewood Volunteer Fire Department.
