Parking restrictions, road closure set for 5K race in Somerset

SOMERSET, MA — Police will implement parking restrictions and a temporary road closure Saturday for the Somerset Berkley Educational Foundation 5K race.

The restrictions will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the area of Pierce Beach Park and Riverside Avenue for the 9 a.m. race.

Unauthorized vehicles parked in posted areas will be tagged and towed if necessary, according to the Somerset Police Department.

Parking will be restricted on both sides of Wood Street from Riverside Avenue west to Orchard Street; Orchard Street from Wood Street south to Washington Avenue; and Washington Avenue from Orchard Street east to Riverside Avenue.

Riverside Avenue will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from Dublin Street and South Street south to Pratt Avenue for approximately one hour.

Southbound traffic on Riverside Avenue from Dublin Street and South Street will be diverted west on South Street toward County Street.

Northbound traffic on Riverside Avenue will be diverted west on Pratt Avenue toward County Street.

Local traffic entering and exiting the race area will be asked to wait until safe passage is assured by police officers.

Several officers will be deployed in the area to service the event.

Motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic are asked to use caution and follow direction from police officers.
