NEW WINDSOR, NY — A 70-year-old man was arrested on a child sexual exploitation charge following a traffic stop on Oct. 21.
Paul Merrill, of Newburgh, was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child less than 16, access to view, a Class E felony.
He is accused of possessing and having access to several images consistent with child sexual exploitation.
The arrest follows a CyberTip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, the Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Montgomery, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led to the execution of a search warrant at Merrill’s residence in Newburgh in June 2024.
Merrill was arrested pursuant to a traffic stop on Oct. 21.
He was transported to State Police Montgomery for processing.
Merrill was arraigned in the City of Newburgh Court and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in the City of Newburgh Court at a later date.
