WATERBURY, CT — Two women were arrested Oct. 18 after allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at more than $700 from a Walmart store.

Officers from the Waterbury Police Department responded to 910 Wolcott Street following a report of shoplifting in progress.

Christine Eason, 42, of Waterbury, and Rudonna Legree, 50, of Waterbury, were observed walking through the store selecting miscellaneous items, including clothing, food, jewelry and beauty products, removing price tags and concealing the merchandise inside bags, according to police.

Legree is also a suspect in another shoplifting incident that occurred at the store a day earlier, police said.

Officers observed Legree and Eason attempt to flee the store while in possession of the stolen merchandise.

When officers confronted the pair, both became resistive and combative, police said.

After a brief struggle, officers detained Legree and Eason.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was $701.37.

Both were charged with larceny in the fifth degree, breach of peace in the second degree and interfering with or resisting an officer.

Legree, a convicted felon, has an extensive criminal history and is currently on probation for several past convictions regarding retail theft, according to police.

Legree is currently released on bond for a firearms arrest that occurred in September.

Waterbury Police detectives are investigating several retail thefts and larcenies involving Legree and Eason.

During these larcenies, the pair had been observed operating a gray Ford Focus bearing Connecticut registration BU1423.
