Trash truck hits vehicles, collides with wall in South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY, MA — A dumpster hauler struck multiple vehicles before jumping a curb and colliding with a stone wall at Peoples Bank on October 17.

Officers responded to the intersection of Newton and Lyman streets at approximately 10 a.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle accident.

The southbound dumpster hauler hit the rear of a vehicle in front of it, sending that vehicle into another, police said.

The hauler then jumped the curb and came to rest after colliding with the stone wall.

The operator was cited by South Hadley police following an investigation conducted with the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section and may face separate charges from state police.

SOUTH HADLEY, MA — A New Hampshire woman was arrested on drunken driving charges after running a red light and causing a two-vehicle crash on October 17.

Officers Farber and Swaby responded to the intersection of Routes 202 and 33 at approximately 1:30 p.m. for a report of an accident between a car and a landscaping truck towing a trailer.

The crash occurred in the middle of the intersection.

An investigation, which included witness interviews, determined the accident was caused when Megan Flannery, of Chesterfield, NH, failed to stop for a red light while traveling southbound on Route 202 and collided with the landscape truck.

After firefighters extinguished a fire in Flannery’s vehicle, officers spoke with her and determined her ability to drive was diminished by alcohol consumption.

Flannery’s young child, who was also in the car, was later released to the child’s father.

Flannery faces charges of operating under the influence of liquor, endangerment of a child while operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a red light.

Woman charged with restraining order violation in South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY, MA — A South Hadley woman was arrested after allegedly violating two restraining orders on October 18.

Officers responded to a residence in the Woodlawn section at approximately 9:56 a.m. for an ongoing restraining order violation.

The victim told dispatch the suspect was pounding on the back door and attempting to enter the home.

Officers located the suspect inside the home upon arrival.

The woman was taken into custody and charged with two counts of violation of an abuse prevention order.

Dorchester woman faces domestic violence charges after South Hadley incident

SOUTH HADLEY, MA — A Dorchester woman was arrested on domestic violence charges following an incident at a Woodlawn neighborhood business on October 19.

Officers responded at approximately 2 p.m. for a report of a possible domestic violence incident.

Officers identified the victim and learned the other party involved had fled the area.

Officer Cebula’s investigation determined a male party and his small child were victims of a domestic assault and battery committed by the female party from Dorchester.

A warrant was sought for the woman’s arrest.

On October 20, Officers Richard and Romanovicz took the suspect into custody on the warrant.

She faces two charges of domestic assault and battery.
