GREENWOOD LAKE, NY — Two teenage boys who left their homes are classified as runaways by the Greenwood Lake Police Department, according to a statement released Monday by Chief Adam Eirand.
The teenagers have been classified as runaways since Oct. 16.
Police believe the pair are intentionally evading authorities by refraining from using electronic devices and social media.
Initial tracking information suggested the two traveled through Trenton, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before reaching Key West, Florida.
Police are focusing their efforts on Key West, where the latest confirmed sighting took place.
Surveillance footage from a local coffee shop Monday morning confirms they are currently in the area and did not appear to be in distress.
Chief Eirand stated that while this is encouraging, their young age and continued refusal to contact their families are cause for serious concern.
The Greenwood Lake Police Department is working closely with the Key West Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies.
Police ask the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to direct any credible tips or sightings to the department.
Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is asked to contact the Greenwood Lake Police Department at 845-477-9211.
