Man arrested on multiple charges in Jay

JAY, VT — A 42-year-old man was arrested Friday evening following a domestic disturbance on Bacon Road.

Vermont State Police were dispatched to a residence at 6:34 p.m. on Oct. 17.

Investigation revealed Matthew Bernard, of Jay, had sexually assaulted and physically harmed a family member, violated an abuse prevention order, and interfered with the person’s ability to contact law enforcement, police said.

Bernard was transported to the Derby barracks for processing.

He was later lodged at the Northern State Correctional Facility on a hold without bail order.

Bernard was cited to appear in Orleans Superior Court on Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m. to answer to charges of sexual assault, second degree aggravated domestic assault, unlawful restraint, violation of an abuse prevention order, and interference with access to emergency services.
