Man arrested on drug charges in Utica

UTICA, NY — A 41-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after police discovered cocaine, methamphetamine and cash while executing an emergency risk protection order at a residence on Blandina Street.

William Grant, of Utica, was taken into custody on Oct. 13 following the discovery of over 100 grams of cocaine, a quantity of methamphetamine and more than $13,000 in cash, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police initially responded to a report of an individual making threatening statements to other parties.

An Emergency Risk Protection Order was sought and approved, which prohibited the individual from possessing or purchasing firearms and authorized police to search for weapons related to the threat.

Officers and investigators went to 748 Blandina St. to conduct the search when a large quantity of narcotics was located.

The search was stopped and investigators with the Special Investigations Unit applied for a search warrant to continue searching for additional contraband, which was granted.

Grant was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree.

Additional charges are likely as the case proceeds, police said.
