Skunk tests positive for rabies in Chesterfield Township

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A skunk has tested positive for rabies in the area of Old York Road between Bordentown Georgetown Road and Bordentown Chesterfield Road.

The Chesterfield Township Police Department issued a rabies advisory Tuesday urging residents to take precautions with outdoor pets.

Officials are advising pet owners to ensure their animals are current on rabies vaccinations.

Residents should report wildlife that appears ill or injured to local police or animal control immediately at 609-267-8300.

Authorities warn residents to keep a safe distance from any animal acting abnormally, including those appearing overly aggressive or overly friendly.
