ATLANTIC BEACH, NY — A vehicle drove off the approach to the Atlantic Beach Bridge early Tuesday morning, crashing into a vacant lot and taking down a power pole.
The Long Beach Fire Department received a report of the crash at 3:46 a.m. on Albany Avenue.
The vehicle landed in a vacant lot on Albany Avenue with live electrical wires down on top of it after striking a PSEG electric pole.
First arriving units found the vehicle inside a locked yard and used bolt cutters to gain access to the lot.
The driver, who was the only occupant, was evaluated at the scene and transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau by Atlantic Beach Rescue Ambulance 369.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Nassau County Police Department.
Units on scene included Tower Ladder 2372, Heavy Rescue 232, Ambulance 2321, Atlantic Beach Rescue Units and Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department Medic 3299.
All operations were under the command of Chief John Marino and Assistant Chiefs DiGiacomo and Ray.
