Worker killed in explosion at Montgomery scrap yard

MONTGOMERY — A 50-year-old Middletown man was killed in an explosion at a scrap metal recycling facility on Oct. 15.

Orange County 911 dispatched Town of Montgomery Police to ASAP Scrap Recycling at 2780 State Route 208 at approximately 10:40 a.m. for a reported explosion with injuries.

Town police and Walden Fire Department personnel arrived and found no active fire at the location.

One deceased male victim was located at the scene.

The victim was an employee who was reported to be using a cutting torch when the explosion occurred.

An investigation is ongoing by the Town of Montgomery Police Department.

Town police were assisted by Walden Fire Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
