Two arrested on drug charges in Utica

UTICA — Two people were arrested on drug charges after police investigators witnessed them using narcotics in a vehicle on Oct. 14.

Utica Police investigators assigned to the Special Investigations Unit witnessed two individuals using narcotics while seated in a vehicle on the 200 block of Genesee Street at approximately 11:10 a.m.

The investigators approached the vehicle and witnessed drug paraphernalia and suspected drugs on the center console of the vehicle.

The male and female occupants were removed from the vehicle, and during a further search over 64 grams of suspected cocaine was located.

Both parties were placed into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department.

Courtney Broadbent, 31, of Port Lyden, New York, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and two counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia in the second degree.

Michael Preece, 46, of West Lyden, New York, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and two counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia in the second degree.
