KIRKWOOD — New York State Police arrested a Pennsylvania man on a charge of unlawfully fleeing from police in a motor vehicle.

Austin L. Darrow, 28, of New Milford, Pennsylvania, was arrested Oct. 14 and charged with the misdemeanor.

On Oct. 4 at approximately 5:45 a.m., a trooper observed a Hyundai sedan following a vehicle too closely on Interstate 81.

The vehicle then failed to stop at a stop sign at the bottom of the exit 1 off ramp near State Route 11, then again at the intersection of Conklin-Kirkwood Bridge.

When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the operator drove away at a high rate of speed down several roads, continuing to commit vehicle and traffic infractions.

The driver ultimately drove into Pennsylvania.

With the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were able to locate the vehicle and driver.

Darrow turned himself in at the State Police Binghamton barracks on Oct. 14 and was processed.

He was issued traffic tickets and an appearance ticket to Kirkwood Town Court on Nov. 5.
