MONTPELIER — Officers arrested a 20-year-old man Monday afternoon on charges including attempted murder following reports of a violent assault on Elm Street.
Gerald Goodell of Montpelier was taken into custody at his residence after police responded to 87 Elm Street at approximately 1:52 p.m. for a report of an ongoing physical assault.
The investigation revealed that Goodell allegedly assaulted multiple victims, including choking one individual to the point of causing them to fear for their life, according to the Montpelier Police Department.
Witnesses and victims described a violent altercation that resulted in visible injuries.
Goodell was located a short time later at his nearby residence and taken into custody without incident.
Following the investigation, Goodell was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and simple assault.
A Vermont Superior Court judge ordered Goodell held without bail pending arraignment in the Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division.
