Brooklyn man arrested in Somers check theft case

SOMERS — The Somers Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniform members have arrested Vadim E. Farmakis, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, following an investigation into a grand larceny that occurred at Heritage Hills Society LTD in the Town of Somers.

In December 2023, a check belonging to Heritage Hills Society in the amount of $23,187.01 was stolen, altered, and deposited into an account held by Farmakis.

Subsequent withdrawals totaling $22,000 were made from the account.

On Oct. 10, Farmakis was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Farmakis was arraigned before the Town of Somers Court and released on his own recognizance.

A return court date has been set for Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
