WALLINGFORD — Two people were injured in a head-on collision on US Route 7 near Hartsboro Road on Saturday afternoon.
Vermont State Police responded to the crash at approximately 1:28 p.m. after reports that one vehicle was on fire.
Barry McPhee-Loyzelle, 43, of West Rutland was driving a 2022 Toyota Tacoma southbound on US Route 7 when he exited the west side of the roadway, reentered and then crossed the center line into the northbound lane, police said.
The Tacoma collided head-on with a 2019 Volkswagen Passat driven by Deborah Roberts, 70, of Clarendon.
Both drivers were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Roberts was later transferred to UVM Medical Center.
The Tacoma sustained extensive front-end damage while the Passat was totaled.
At the hospital, McPhee-Loyzelle displayed signs of impairment and was processed for suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
Criminal charges are pending.
The Wallingford Fire Department, Wallingford Rescue and Regional Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
Weather conditions were sunny and cool with clear, dry roads.
