UTICA — A 37-year-old Utica man was arrested on drug charges and an outstanding robbery warrant during a police patrol on Oct. 9.
Samuel Crippen was taken into custody at approximately 7:45 p.m. on the 1600 block of Oneida Street during a citizen stop conducted by Utica Police officers from the Crime Prevention Unit, Oneida County Sheriff Deputies and New York State Police personnel.
Officers said Crippen provided false identifying information during the stop.
When officers attempted to detain him, a struggle ensued before he was handcuffed, police said.
After Crippen was positively identified, officers determined he had a felony robbery warrant from the New York Police Department.
During a search following his arrest, officers found several corner knotted baggies containing a substance consistent with cocaine, according to police.
Crippen was transported to the Utica Police Department.
An investigator with the Special Investigations Unit handled charging due to the quantity and packaging of the contraband.
Crippen was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree and the outstanding robbery warrant.
