MANCHESTER — Officers from the Manchester Police Department observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on Depot Street at approximately 11:49 p.m. Thursday.

A registration check revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of the City of Winooski on Oct. 8.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the operator of the vehicle, identified as Alonzo Smith, 22, of Manchester, was detained.

During the course of the investigation, it was further determined that Smith was a suspect in a separate vehicle theft reported on Oct. 7 in the Town of New Haven.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and arrangements were made for it to be returned to its rightful owner.

Smith was cited for two counts of stolen property, one count of aggravated operation without owner’s consent and one count of unlawful mischief.

Smith was lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $1,000 bail.
