WEBSTER — A 27-year-old Webster woman has been charged after allegedly striking a juvenile pedestrian while driving at high speed and possessing marijuana, police said.
Searena Angomas of Prospect Street was driving west on East Main Street at approximately 49 mph in a posted 30 mph zone when the crash occurred Tuesday at 4:16 p.m. near 44 East Main Street, according to the Webster Police Department.
Police said Angomas illegally drove around a vehicle that was slowing to turn into McDonald’s by using the right breakdown lane.
As Angomas re-entered the travel lane, she struck one of three pedestrians who were crossing the street before swerving and crashing into a parked car, police said.
The juvenile pedestrian was found lying in the middle of the road and suffered a head injury and injuries to his extremities, according to police.
The child was conscious when officers arrived and was transported to a local hospital along with two juveniles who were passengers in Angomas’s vehicle.
Police said Angomas had two juveniles in her car during the crash, including an 11-day-old infant whose car seat was not properly secured and was facing forward.
Officers found four large bags of marijuana weighing almost 3.1 ounces in Angomas’s vehicle, along with an empty alcohol bottle, police said.
Angomas is charged with negligent/reckless operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of reckless endangerment of a child, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
She will be arraigned at Dudley District Court at a later date.
Police filed an immediate threat to suspend Angomas’s license with the Registry of Motor Vehicles and notified the Department of Children and Families.
