Rochester crossing guard struck by hit-and-run driver

ROCHESTER — A Rochester crossing guard was struck by a hit-and-run driver while working in a crosswalk Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Draper Street and Portland Avenue.

The victim, a woman in her 70s, was transported to Strong Hospital with non-life-threatening lower body injuries.

Police said the crossing guard was in the crosswalk on Draper Street with her issued stop sign when a gray Chevrolet Equinox made a right turn from Portland Avenue and struck her.

The suspect vehicle continued on Draper Street without stopping, according to the preliminary investigation.

The Rochester Police Department is asking for the community’s help in locating the driver.
