Freeport driver charged with DUI after child found unrestrained in car

FREEPORT — A West Babylon man was arrested and charged under Leandra’s Law after police found him driving intoxicated with an unrestrained 4-year-old child in his vehicle Oct. 7.

Freeport officers stopped Anthony Furtado’s vehicle on Sunrise Highway at 9:43 p.m. after a passenger threw a liquor bottle out the window.

Police determined Furtado was intoxicated and discovered the young child was unrestrained in the car.

Furtado was charged with aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law and endangering the welfare of a child.
