Worcester police arrest man on multiple gun charges

WORCESTER — A 38-year-old Worcester man was arrested on multiple gun charges after police discovered an untraceable firearm on his person while taking him into custody on outstanding warrants.

Matthew Gambrel was arrested Oct. 7 at approximately 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Street area by detectives with the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit.

Police said detectives were on patrol when they encountered Gambrel, who had active warrants.

During the arrest, officers found a firearm on Gambrel, according to police.

The Crime Scene Unit processed the weapon and determined it did not have a serial number, making it untraceable, police said.

Gambrel did not possess a license to carry, according to authorities.

He was charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity weapon with a feeding device and the outstanding warrants.
