Jamestown woman arrested after using child as shield during police custody attempt

JAMESTOWN — A 35-year-old woman grabbed her 4-year-old daughter in an attempt to prevent police from arresting her on an active bench warrant Oct. 2.

Members of the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon responded to an address on the city’s south side around 9:54 p.m. for a disorderly person call.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Briana A. Winslow was being disorderly within the residence and had an active bench warrant through Jamestown City Court.

When officers made contact with Winslow, she grabbed her daughter in an attempt to prevent officers from taking her into custody.

Winslow continued to scream, kick at officers and throw herself around her bed while holding onto her daughter.

After a brief period, the 4-year-old was safely taken from Winslow.

While officers attempted to place Winslow into custody, she continued to resist arrest and refused to place her hands behind her back.

After a brief struggle, Winslow was placed into custody.

Winslow was charged with resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child, along with her active bench warrant.

She was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where she was held pending arraignment.

In a separate incident Oct. 8 at 2:12 a.m., officers from the third platoon responded to a west side address for a domestic dispute.

Through investigation, officers found that Elizabeth T. Abram, 21, physically attacked a victim and damaged property belonging to the victim.

Officers also found that Abram was violating a valid refrain from order of protection.

Abram was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment.

Abram was charged with criminal contempt in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and criminal mischief in the third degree.
