Fatal crash closes main road in Rutland, Massachusetts

RUTLAND — A 78-year-old woman died Tuesday after a collision between a Toyota Camry and a tractor-trailer on Main Street at Pleasantdale Road.

The woman was transported by EMS to UMass Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Main Street, also known as Massachusetts Route 122A, prompting authorities to close the roadway.

The road reopened at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday after being closed for several hours.

The Rutland Police Department is investigating the crash with assistance from the CEMLEC Crash Reconstruction Team, the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said they will not release the victim’s name pending family notifications.

The closure affected school dismissal times, and WRSD schools, Bay Path, and AA Transportation & First Student bus companies were notified of the road closure.
