OXFORD — The Maine State Fire Marshal is investigating a camper fire that injured a 7-year-old girl Tuesday evening.
The Oxford Fire Department responded to the reported fire at 72 Gore Road shortly before 5 p.m.
Firefighters entered the camper and rescued the girl from inside before quickly extinguishing the blaze.
The child was transported by Oxford Fire-Rescue to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She is expected to survive.
A 3-year-old sibling who had been inside the camper at the time of the fire was able to get out on her own before firefighters arrived.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been accidentally started by the younger child playing with a lighter.
All occupants of the property have been cooperative with investigators.
The home and another camper on the property were not damaged, and no other injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
