Port Jervis man charged with felonies after gunshot fired during dispute

PORT JERVIS — Two men were arrested after a dispute between groups led to a gunshot being fired that struck a parked vehicle Oct. 6.

The Port Jervis City Police Department received a report at approximately 2:48 p.m. of a dispute between two groups of people and a gunshot fired on Seward Avenue near Hammond Street.

A subsequent investigation revealed that during the dispute one of the defendants produced a handgun and discharged one round, which struck a parked motor vehicle.

Anthony Longardino, 18, of Port Jervis, and Zane Staerker, 19, of Huguenot, were arrested.

Longardino was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony.

Longardino was arraigned in the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Part at Middletown City Court and remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail, $60,000 bond or $90,000 partially secured bond pending his next court appearance.

Staerker was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony.

Staerker was arraigned in the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Part at Middletown City Court and was released to Orange County Probation for monitoring pending his next court appearance.

Staerker was treated at Bon Secours Community Hospital for a laceration to his leg and discharged.

No other injuries were reported.

The department was assisted by the Town of Deerpark Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
