BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 36-year-old Dorchester man and towed nine unregistered motorcycles Wednesday during a targeted enforcement operation in response to community complaints about illegal scooter activity.
Officers assigned to District D-4 conducted “Operation Safe Scooter” in the South End, Back Bay and Fenway neighborhoods on Oct. 1.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., officers entered the alley of 105-109 Peterborough Street and observed several individuals with mopeds and motorcycles occupying private residential parking spaces.
During the investigation, officers identified Ivan Mateo-Perez, who was found to be unlicensed.
When advised that he could not legally operate his motorcycle, Mateo-Perez attempted to start the vehicle and flee.
Officers quickly intervened, preventing his escape.
After a brief struggle, Mateo-Perez was placed under arrest.
He is expected to appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and resisting arrest.
The nine unregistered motorcycles were towed for multiple motor vehicle violations.
