AUBURN — Members of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force working with Auburn Police Department’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination Team conducted a traffic stop at Clymer Street and South Street at approximately 9:33 p.m. Oct. 3.
David G. Heffernan, 61, of Fleming was taken into custody on an unrelated matter during the stop.
Police found Heffernan in possession of methamphetamine during his arrest.
Beverly E. Wheeling, 51, of Auburn, was identified as a passenger in the vehicle.
Wheeling was found in possession of a loaded revolver and crack cocaine, police said.
Heffernan was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony.
Wheeling was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Both suspects were transported to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings at 7:00 a.m. Oct. 4.
The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office requested both defendants be remanded.
A judge ordered both Heffernan and Wheeling remanded to county jail custody.
The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force includes members from New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department.
The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
