RED HOOK — A 56-year-old man faces charges after burning construction materials and waste during a statewide fire ban Friday evening.
The Red Hook Police Department responded at approximately 6:50 p.m. Oct. 3 to assist the Tivoli Fire Department with a large brush fire on Budds Corners Road.
Upon investigation, police determined the fire consisted mostly of construction material and waste.
Tivoli firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes of their arrival.
Officers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to assist Red Hook police and subsequently charged the property owner with unlawful disposal of solid waste and violation of the New York state burn ban.
The man is scheduled to appear in town court at a later date.
New York state is currently under a temporary burn ban from Oct. 2 through Oct. 15.
