MATTAPOISETT — A 19-year-old Connecticut man was arrested Saturday night following a police pursuit that began in Mattapoisett and ended in Fairhaven.

Nicholas Kreidel of 24 Laurel Lane in Prospect, Connecticut, was taken into custody after allegedly leading officers on a chase that started at approximately 11:40 p.m.

Officer Ben Church was traveling north on North Street to assist another officer on a traffic stop when a blue Honda Accord swerved over double yellow lines, nearly striking his police cruiser, according to the Mattapoisett Police Department.

The vehicle continued south on North Street in an erratic manner.

Church attempted to stop the vehicle near North Street and County Road, but the driver rapidly accelerated and failed to stop.

The Honda continued west on Route 6 toward Fairhaven while operating erratically and failing to stop for police units.

The Fairhaven Police Department was notified and dispatched units to assist.

Officers from Fairhaven successfully deployed stop sticks near Route 6 and Route 240.

The vehicle continued north on Route 240 with deflated tires and refused to stop.

The Honda eventually became disabled and came to a stop on Route 240 before Interstate 195.

Kreidel was arrested and transported to the Mattapoisett Police Department for booking.

Three other occupants in the vehicle were released.

Kreidel was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, lights violation and speeding.

He was released on $500 cash bail pending arraignment Monday in Wareham 4th District Court.
