ST. ALBANS — Police are investigating after a dog was allegedly poisoned with meat laced with green pellets in a backyard on Barlow Street.

The St. Albans Police Department responded to a residence Saturday at approximately 8:11 a.m. for a cruelty to animal complaint.

The owner of a 4-year-old black lab mix named Hank discovered piles of meat in their backyard that appeared to have been mixed with poison.

The green-colored pellets were mixed with the meat, police said.

Hank had ingested the substance and was rushed to an animal hospital for treatment.

Police said the substance appears to have been intentionally placed for the dog to consume.

Hank is currently recovering and being monitored at the animal hospital.

The St. Albans Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
